Government RhetIraq: Madison, Wisconsin

Quotes: From December 15, 2005 article titled, "City Council leaves Iraq question to voters"
In a strange twist, opponents of the Iraq War successfully persuaded the Madison City Council on Tuesday night not to vote for a resolution to bring all American troops home from Iraq.
According to war opponent Janet Parker, by declining to pass the resolution, the council will let residents of Madison make a greater statement by voting on the resolution themselves in the April 2006 election.
The council had the choice of either adopting the resolution as stated in the petition or not adopting it and letting city residents vote on the question of "Should the United States bring all military personnel home from Iraq now?" on April 4.
Council members readily agreed to leave the issue to the public. They decided to refer the resolution to a meeting in June - long after the election will make the point moot.
